Sony recently rolled out its latest Android 4.2.2 inventory firmware (6.2.B.1.96) for Xperia S through Over-The-Air (OTA) update. The replace reportedly patches the perf-occasion exploit which enabled root entry on previous stock firmware (6.2.B.0.211).
In different words, those who rooted their Xperia S on Sony's previous firmware must root the device once more (utilizing our guide), so as to be able to install third-party root apps, customized ROMs and system tweaks on the handset.
There may be nonetheless no word if a simpler one-click root toolkit can be made out there for the handset by XDA Recognised Developer, DooMLoRD. Nevertheless, Xperia S LT26i users can take pleasure in root access on both locked and unlocked bootloaders, due to the recently launched DooMLoRD rooting tool.
- DooMLoRD Rooting tool and instructions provided in this guide works on Sony Xperia S LT26i model only. Do not attempt this root method on any other model as it may permanently damage or hard brick the device. Verify the device model number by navigating to Settings > About Device > Model Number
- Root method used in this guide requires a Windows-based computer or laptop.
- Download and install Xperia S USB drivers via PC Companion for Windows on your computer.
- Enable USB Debugging mode on phone by navigating to Settings > Developer Options (if running Android 4.0 or later) or Settings > Applications > Development (if running Android 2.3 or later). Otherwise, if device is running Android 4.2, then do the following:
- Go to Settings > About Phone
- Scroll to bottom of screen and select Build Number
- Tap the phone's Build Number seven times to unlock or reveal the hidden Developer Options under Settings. Then select the checkbox to enable USB debugging mode under Settings > Developer Options.
- Make sure the phone has at least 80% battery charge to prevent unexpected device shutdown (due to battery drain) while installing the ROM.
- Ensure device is unlocked (not locked to a specific carrier) with CWM Recovery installed.
